I shake my head in disbelief and disgust at the cowardice within our elected Republican representatives and senators both on the national and state levels. Not only serving as a Committee chairman or on the Senate Committee, but voting in favor of unqualified candidates to serve as national secretaries or directors who have no business serving as such.

This jeopardizes NATO, our Baltic, Scandinavian, Eastern and Western European Allies; our Middle Eastern partners, the two State Solution between Palestine and Israel; our Central and South American partners having to take in ICE impounded undocumented immigrants in feet shackles. Our retracted USAID soft power strategy simply smashed by DOGE teenager hackers. Medicine, food, commodities held up and rotting on US docks intended for sick, starving people within struggling countries in Africa; A much needed conciliatory tone to be struck with Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia after the Vietnam War also adversely affected by the USAID retraction. Malaysia, the Korean Peninsula, Japan, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand. Adam Kinzinger gave another excellent Substack on this very topic.

Can one even imagine how Presidents George H. W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and Dwight D. Eisenhower, Jack Kennedy and U.S. Attorney General John Kennedy would react to these dangerously obtuse actions. We already know how President George W. Bush feels.

Our government is being run by con artists, criminals, sexual predators, conspiracy theorists, McCarthy-like targeted vendetta seekers, and spies, billionaires, and millionaire senators living the lavish lifestyle of an elite executive.

Neither Ukraine nor Gaza deserves such callous treatment and yet here we are. Tens of thousands of innocent civilians dead. Ukraine fighting for its own sovereignty and Gaza conflict resulting in completely destroyed infrastructure in the hands of Israel all while Hamas was responsible for launching a murderous attack upon Israel while Israel hostages are still being held.

Democracy is dying whether it’s in darkness or visible light and I am ashamed of our nation’s current self inflicted vote towards cowardice and ‘alternative truths’, made up anti vaccine hysteria, and alternate realities. We need to demand earnest leadership that is supported amongst our NATO allies. Are these ideals simply dashed because our elected leaders are afraid of being brave and doing the right thing?

President Trump's "new colonialism" is mostly talk, his own particular brand of propaganda calculated to appease the still powerful pro-Israel lobby while presenting to Americans and the world a foreign policy face that is bold and strong in an effort to obscure if not dignify what is, of course, in reality a humiliating retreat from a foreign policy disaster of incalculable proportions presided over by the previous administration. The US government lost its proxy war against Russia in the Ukraine. Lost. NATO is a shambles as is the EU, for having depended on and followed the course set by the US government. Moreover, our government, having supported the genocidal slaughter in Gaza, has lost much of its ability to project soft power and whatever legitimate claim it may have had to moral high ground on the world stage. Lost. Can you imagine, Rekha, any US State Department official attempting to lecture other governments around the globe regarding human rights now?

I hear many so-called liberals ranting self-righteously about Trump being a bully. Where was their high dudgeon when the Biden administration and the Blinken State Department were all in on weapons for the disastrous proxy war against Russia in Ukraine and the unconscionable slaughter of innocents in Gaza? Few of these self-professed liberals have been able to bring themselves to publicly utter the word genocide despite the various unambiguous rulings of the ICC and the ICJ, the highest international courts. Now that we have a president who, despite his faults, is attempting to end the war in Ukraine and normalize relations with Russia, these liberal lions know a bully when they see one, a bully who has also brought about a ceasefire in Gaza, which Biden and Blinken declined to do. In Gaza, where the remains of uncounted thousands of civilians, defenseless men, women, and children, mostly women and children, lie buried under mountains of rubble created by American manufactured munitions given to Israel.

There are some issues on which I cannot agree with or support our president and his administration. His efforts to end the proxy war against Russia, to normalize relations with Russia, and to halt the genocide in Gaza are not among them. The malign effects of the foreign policy disaster created by previous administrations, Democrat and Republican alike, are going to be with us for decades.

The best leaders seek common ground there to bring people together to work toward their common goals.

When I retired several years ago I was going to study up and write about settler colonialism with native ameericans and

african slave trade. I have been unabe to pause. The more I explore the past the more I see it unfolding in front of me in real time. Ukainians slaughtered, Palestenians murdered and now America is going to buy Gaza and expel the indegenous people to three parts of the world to make America great again. Thanks for your work. Keep it up to keep me sane for the time I have left on this earth. John Schisssel

A bully for sure. Moreover, a very confident bully. Members of his own party, who know better, will still not cross over that line to help in a significant way. The key is to find out why they continue to approve all of the incompetent appointees of Trumps. All it would take are a few “no” votes to start the takedown. Why aren’t they doing what is right and smart.?Perhaps it is those Representatives and Senators who need more pushback from voters who have decided that they don’t want Trump’s world anymore. They’ve got to stop being afraid of losing their own personal agenda and give that up for the common good.

Thank you Rekha. It's cruelty for ego and profit, which starts at the local level. We all know it's based on lies, yet it continues withoutcompasdion or empathy.

I have little to no sympathy for the Arab-Americans in Michigan that just couldn't bring themselves to vote for Harris. Elections have consequences and this one was easy to spot from a mile away.
