Remember when Grassley whined about Obamacare wanting to "pull the plug on Grandma?" I guess with Joni being ok with rural hospitals closing, we won't need to worry about that. Grandma can just die at home.

Iowans deserve better than Joni Ernst. Rekha, thank you for yet another fiercely written post.

Thanks Peter. We can can blame, or credit, sheer middle-of-the night outrage and inability to sleep for that ferocity...

Our nation values an unhealthy relationship between perception and reality, With her coiffed hairstyle, painted and pampered hands and slickly dressed attire, Senator Ernst is such a far cry from her bread bag covered adolescent toes and her signature ‘Making them squeal’ like pigs having their testicular sacks severed’ cry, when claiming that she would drain the swamp of big D.C. government grifters. It’s truly come full circle for Senator Ernst.

She is happy to go back to her plush lifestyle and healthcare/spa panacea in D.C.. She surely had such a strong affect of reigning in Elon and his DOGE from abusing our federal government’s information about everyone. Life is pretty lush when your tax payers are paying for your the life of an executive.

It was the coy, cold indifference to the question that got me. Ernst’s flippant response’Pay me the big bucks, to lie to you about who is truly receiving Medicaid and SNAP benefits and then I’ll just justify it by saying that everyone dies.’ It’s those families who have bread bag liners in their boots to keep their feet dry and warm and their stomachs fed through SNAP. Callous, heartless, uncaring. This is who is representing Iowans on the national stage, through our federal government. The inept, shamelessly sadistic, smiling faux piety in her response and her upper crust, callous presence couldn’t have been more jarring.

It’s sickening to see a well paid elected U.S. Senator (or U.S. Representative for that matter) actively lie and pass blame upon hardworking immigrants. It seems Republicans have all been coached on what to say. The paucity of governance in helping the most vulnerable, the hungry, the cash strapped families through federal cuts just to make up for tax breaks for the most wealthy is shameful. It is horrifically unbelievable. I hope that this zinger line given by Sen. Ernst lands in the well worn laps of weary Iowans.

We all got a view into her soul when she voted for Pete Hegseth to be head of the Defense Department. There is no bottom.

She wears and speaks with an arrogant, condescending, patronizing, superior demeanor knowing full well that she's safely wrapped in the cozy blankets of the Republican Party, now collapsed into the Party of Trump. She will keep her smug mug front and center (along with buddy Kim) and get the votes of those who vote strictly by Party, despite what they hear her spewing. For years, I've heard people say they're unhappy with what the party is doing but they be d*mned if they'd vote for a Democrat. They "cuss 'em" then run to "vote for 'em". Now that "education" has been deemed "woke", there doesn't seem to be much chance of any changes any time soon.

I've also encountered others who say, "Well, I've been a lifelong Republican" as if that's their Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card, absolving them of any need to pay attention to how their party is now the Trump Party.

Thanks for writing about this, Rekha. The reverberations from her remarks will hopefully haunt her to the end of her political career. But we shouldn't be one bit shocked at what she said. She now feels even more emboldened than previously. But then we shouldn't be shocked that a majority of voters (albeit small) re-elected trump to a 2nd term. This is what we now have with multiple generations now completely tranquilized by FOX News and the rest that make the right-wing media eco-sphere. The average FOX/MAGA doesn't have a clue what the "big, beautiful bill" actually does, except that it's going "to stop illegals from sucking Medicaid and occupying our schools, while they're selling us drugs and raping our daughters." ... It's worth noting that less than 8 hrs after Joni made some innocuous post on her Facebook page (following her utter display of cruelty), there were over 1000 comments, nearly all taking her to task for her stupidity. And of course, Joni will try to change the narrative by blaming her critics, which is the GOP's go-to-strategy for dealing with controversy.

To my way of thinking , she frequently does not give a straight answer when asked by an interviewer. She uses about 20 different topics to skirt around answering directly and with complete truth. I think she just couldn’t think of any way to do this when getting a point blank question and this came out of her mouth. “Well we’re all going to die”. Who does she think she’s talking to? I think we all know this, Joanie.

Hard to put a heart on this one, even tho I agree with the words you’ve written!! Maybe this emoji says it: ❤️‍🩹. Looks like Ernst is gonna have stiff competition for her election and we rural Iowans (Greene County at least) are gearing up already.
